This is a beautiful sign! The background is painted alabastor white and then engraved with the 'Certified by' message. The engraving reveals the raw MDF under the paint, giving the engraving a gorgoues glow against the white. 
 
The top layer - the frame and the words 'World's Best *Dad*' - are cut from wood and placed on top of the white background giving you a two layer stunning end result.
